Grabbed an impact wrench and 24mm socket and headed back to the salvage yard. Ended up with this:

Kinja'd!!!

Cleaned it up and it looked like this.

Kinja'd!!!

Used it to replace this.

Here they are next to each other.

Neato. I also got a new center console lid. The latch on the old one was broken and part of the plastic lip that holds the rubber down was broken so it was curling up.

The little things make a huge difference. Also, the Miata is running and driving again! I should have it back home within the week, or whenever I get the Saturn finished and out of here.

Plastic steering wheels are the devil. Steering wheels should only be made of wood, or leather. The leather wrapped wheel on my wife’s Fit is one of the features that makes me very happy it’s a “Sport”

Very nice! I have a leather OEM Subaru wheel from a wreck found on eBay in the mail right now to replace the crappy plastic one on my base model.

How much did they charge you?

For the wheel? $25. For the center console lid? $10. For the Miata? $390.

No alcantera? I like alcantera wheels, though I have no idea how well they hold up

Strikes me as reasonable.

Yes. Please keep posting as you add more. My ultimate plan is to essentially turn my base model into a Limited except with a manual transmission that only came on lower trims. But it will be a long process.

Not bad. I got kinda screwed with the alignment. I asked for 1.75 degrees of negative camber in front and I got ~1.0 degree, so I’ll have a little more understeer than I’d like at autocross.

I’m trying to find a Shaker 1000 rear subwoofer but they’re all a couple hundred bucks on ebay. Leather seats would be nice, too. Other than those things there isn’t a whole lot else to upgrade. I’m trying to find an OEM grille with foglights in it, and maybe an OE dual exhaust.

I’m pretty obsessive about alignment on my cars, but only because I don’t like buying tires. Not autocross...

Yeah, the alignment is optomized right now for tire wear instead of autocross, though I was hoping for a more handling-skewed alignment. I need all new eccentrics (my washers have worn smooth and don’t “grip” that well anymore) and tie rod ends anyways, so I’ll get a re-alignment when I have those items.

it is a surprisingly substantial difference when compared side by side, but subtle when viewed on its own. nice work
